Gourmet Guide awards restaurant plate ratings for 2023THE 2023 JHP GOURMET GUIDE is out, and 36 restaurants around South Africa have been awarded Three, Two or One Plate(s), plus another six Haute Performance Awards.

The guide was launched at Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, giving entrepreneurs in the incubation hub the opportunity to feed the country’s finest chefs.

“The guide showcases the best fine-dining establishments all over SA, and celebrates and rewards excellence in the industry,” says author, Jenny Handley. “This is the first restaurant rating system in South Africa that equates to global standards with international benchmarking.”

One plate is awarded for excellent cuisine, two for exceptional dining that demands a detour, and three plates for world-class destination dining worthy of a flight. As consistency forms an integral part of expansive criteria, no new restaurant receives three plates initially.
